This huge 325 gram specimen is a polished free form of African Shattuckite, a rare secondary Copper mineral originating from the Tantara Mine, Shinkolobwe Sector, Central Area, Shaba Copper Belt Region of the D.R. of Congo. Due to the trouble in the area, the mine is now closed.
It has huge inclusions of beautiful malachite, intertwined with mini caves on every side.
Shattukite is becoming difficult to find especially of this quality. This beautiful stone has many veins of deep blue and turquoise, intermixed with malachite and perhaps a hint of dioptase (?)
This huge stone weighs in at 325 grams (also see extra photo at the bottom of this page) and would make a perfect gift, a healing tool or perfect for a mineral collection.
Shattukite is sometimes called African Turquoise because of its similar colour to Turquoise.
It was originally named after its discovery locality, the Shattuck Mine, Bisbee, Arizona, USA.
